ASTM A213 T22 U Tubes for A Power Plant in South Africa

Commissioned in 2021, Medupi Power Station is a dry-cooled coal-fired power station built by Eskom near Lephalale in Limpopo province, South Africa. This power plant has a total capacity of power generation of 4800 MW. The photos presented below are U-shaped tubes made of ASTM A213 T22 alloy steel. These U tubes are supplied for the fabrication of superheaters, which are used to further heat saturated steam into superheated steam. The U-shaped design provides a larger heat transfer area and a more compact equipment layout.

ASTM A213 T22 is a specific chromium-molybdenum alloy steel, which provides excellent strength, corrosion resistance, and heat resistance properties. Generally, the T22 seamless tubes shall be furnished with a heat treatment process involving normalization and tempering.
